There are very few aspects of your home that you can change with limited time and limited budget that can really change the look and feel of a room. Of those, my favorite would have to be laminate wood flooring.

If you are looking to install new laminate wood flooring or replace your existing, this can be a fairly easy home improvement chore that you can tackle. With all the inexpensive but exotic looks available in the laminate wood market, you can pick what you want to try and have your floors swapped out in fairly short order.

With an existing laminate wood floor, this will likely be your easiest floor swap you have ever seen or done. This type of flooring is considered to be a floating floor as there is no glue, nails, or brackets holding this floor in place. The only adhesive you will find is the tape strips that allow the underlayment mat to be seamless underneath the floor planks. The laminate planks then fit together using tongue-and-groove connections that “float” on top of the underlayment mat. Once the floor is in place, you will find there is a gap all the way around the room between the baseboard and the laminate floor. The best and easiest way to take care of this issue is to place a nice wood laminate quarter round over this gap and using finishing nails to secure it to the base board.

A few years (or even months) later, when you want to change up the style or color of the room, bring out the claw hammer and very carefully remove your quarter round. Put it to the side for reinstallation and carefully remove the floor planks to salvage for future use. At that point, you can either save the underlayment mat or replace it with new.
